                  Cancellation of Khartoum Seminar

                  logo_tsfDear Friends,

I am sad as well as profoundly disappointed to inform you that I had to cancel the seminar that was due to take place in Khartoum. This decision of cancelling the seminar was not easy for me to take, in fact, I was always postponing it, hoping to maintain it on the date and the venue scheduled. But I had no other choice, the reason being that the Organizer could not fulfil all his needed obligations, I must say to his own sorrow.

I feel very sorry and I apologise sincerely for any inconvenience that may have occurred.

However, with my colleagues of the Turkish Chess Federation and with the cooperation of Fide, I am still determined, through Tactic, to assist Africa develop and popularise Chess in the whole Continent.

Starting from 2010, a new program of assistance will be defined and executed, taking into account the needs and wishes of African Chess Federations. We will organise the first seminar in Antalya from 22nd January to 30 January 2010.

Hoping further to widen our cooperation and strengthen our relations for the benefit of Chess in Africa, I wish you all the success in your difficult but exciting duties.

                  About Sudan:

Sudan, the tenth largest country in the world,  the biggest Arab country, and the biggest in Africa too. Surrounded by nine countries ! With a population of 42 Millions (2009).

Sudan civilization started in 8,000 BC, and it is known now that the pyramids started in Sudan, and then the civilization moved north to Egypt, and there are 223 pyramids in Sudan as the biggest number of pyramids in one country in the world. While there are only 118 pyramids in Egypt.

The longest river in the world, the Nile is flowing like a snake in Sudan, bearing in mind that there are two Nile rivers in Sudan, one is the blue river and the other is the white river, both rivers has different colors, tastes, and fish ! They booth meet in Khartoum city, in a tourists spot called “Mugran”.

Sudan exports cotton, sesame, meat, gum Arabic, vegetable and fruits, sorghum, wheat, and considered the biggest manufacturer of cane Sugar in the world. And There are 200 Million acres waiting for foreign investment to be cultivated.

There are 142 spoken languages in Sudan. Official languages are Arabic and English. Main religions are Islam and Christianity.

It is known that in Sudan, you can see 983 kinds of birds.

There are many diverse places to visit in Sudan, because of the different weather for each region, you can visit desert,  jungle, beaches, rivers, mountains, and each area has its own environment and totally different tribes. one famous international spot is Dinder natural reserve (park), it is 3500 square meters. And you can reach it by traveling  for 7 hours from Khartoum!

Women education started in Sudan in the year 1920. Despite the poverty, but the country has a high literacy rate specially in the main cities and among the youth, and the number of educated girls is higher than boys.

Lieutenant General Albashir, the leader who ended a 40-years war between the South and North, was elected in 1993, and there will be elections in 2010 supervised by the UN.

Now President Albashir is trying his best to end a war that started in the 1970s in Darfur between tribes, President Al-Bashr and his government made major changes to Sudan, the main difference they made, is transferring the mentalities if people from import to export ! They brought new principles to the country like: eating from what we cultivate, and wearing what we make. So Albashir wanted this African country  to depend on its self, despite the sanctions from countries that is not happy with this new independent route Sudan is taking.

Albashir built many universities to achieve these goals, and now Sudan has the biggest number of universities in one Arab country, with 74 universities.

Despite the wars, Sudan now is considered the 17th fastest growing economy in the world, and this Is according to international reports. But the country still has a long way to go.
And chess “The forgotten sport”, has a long way to go, and this is our first step, to start with T.A.C.T.I.C. program.
